The fastest managers to 100 Premier League wins

Mikel Arteta celebrated a milestone moment at the weekend as the Arsenal manager secured his 100th win in the Premier League.

The Spaniard brought up a century in memorable fashion, beating North London rivals Tottenham in a thrilling contest. Arteta has transformed Arsenal into title challengers after a period of decline and has become one of the fastest managers in the division’s history to reach 100 wins.

Here are the five fastest managers to reach 100 Premier League victories.

    Mikel Arteta – 169 wins

Arteta has reached a century of Premier League wins in just 169 games as a top-flight manager, enough to knock former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger (179) off this list.

The Spaniard was a brave appointment after arriving at the Emirates with no previous senior experience, having cut his teeth on the coaching staff at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola. He won the FA Cup in his debut season, a success that provided patience as Arteta looked to address the issues of past regimes

Across the last two seasons, he has turned Arsenal into a genuine contender at the top, securing a long-awaited Champions League return after a runners-up finish in 2022/23. He’s aiming to go one better this time around.

Sir Alex Ferguson – 162 games

The most successful manager in Premier League history unsurprisingly features highly on this list. Ferguson took charge of the Manchester United side that won four of the first six league titles following the competition’s rebranding in 1992 and finished as runners-up on the other two occasions.

That record saw Ferguson reach 100 wins in just 162 games, the fourth-fastest of any manager in the division’s history.

Ferguson continued to develop and reinvent his winning machine at Old Trafford throughout his 26-year stay at the club, establishing United as the most successful side in English football history after winning 13 league titles, moving the club ahead of arch-rivals Liverpool and onto 20 top-flight championships.

    Jurgen Klopp – 159 games

Jurgen Klopp also brought up a century during a local grudge match, reaching 100 wins in the Merseyside Derby.

The German has transformed Liverpool into one of European football’s leading sides over the past few seasons, winning a wealth of honours including the Champions League and Premier League.

That title success came in 2019/20, ending a wait of 30 years for the Reds, and was achieved in record-breaking fashion with seven games to spare and a club-record 99 points. Earlier, Liverpool had finished as runners-up to Manchester City despite 97 points in 2018/19 and Klopp has led the side to three campaigns with 90+ points.

    Jose Mourinho – 142 games

The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ proved just that during a memorable first spell at Chelsea, swaggering into English football and winning back-to-back league titles following his arrival from Porto.

Under the lavish spending of owner Roman Abramovich at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho built a formidable Chelsea team that was crowned champions in 2004/05 with a record-low of 15 goals conceded.

Mourinho became the most successful manager in the club’s history before departing in 2007, though he returned for a second spell and continued to rack up wins.

The three-time title winner took 142 games to reach 100 wins.

    Pep Guardiola – 134 games

Pep Guardiola has shattered records since arriving in the Premier League and took only 134 games to reach 100 wins in England’s top flight. After an initial campaign of adaptation, Guardiola’s second season saw the Citizens canter to the title with a record-breaking 100 points.

The Spaniard is responsible for two of the highest three points totals in Premier League history and has won five Premier League crowns in seven seasons. A sixth, and record-breaking fourth in a row, could still arrive in 2023/24 for a manager whose greatness is cemented.
