Tottenham have confirmed Jan Vertonghen has agreed to extend his contract until the end of the season.
Vertonghen’s deal was set to expire at the end of June, and as a result there has been plenty of speculation about his future. Earlier this month, we relayed a Sky Sports story that claimed Spurs had asked the Belgian if he was willing to play beyond the end of his contract but were yet to hear an answer.

But it has now been confirmed that Vertonghen will remain a Tottenham player until the end of the 2019/20 season. However, there is no news on whether he will extend his stay in north London beyond then.
In the same update, Spurs revealed Michel Vorm has joined Vertonghen in extending his deal by a month, providing Jose Mourinho with key emergency backup in case something happens to Hugo Lloris or Paulo Gazzaniga.
Whether Vertonghen will play during the run-in remains to be seen. Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez started at centre-back against Manchester United on Friday, and Toby Alderweireld is also in front of his countryman in the pecking order.
