TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand says he ranks Bayern Munich midfielder and Manchester City target Jamal Musiala above Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard as a player.
Before the Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie between Bayern and Arsenal earlier this week, Ferdinand was asked on TikTok to compare players from the opposing teams.
When it came to ranking Musiala and Odegaard, Ferdinand opted for the former, with the ex-Chelsea academy star clearly someone the pundit rates very highly.
Musiala did impress with his performance against Arsenal on Wednesday night, more so than Odegaard did for the Gunners, which seems to justify Ferdinand’s choice.
The German international is a “top target” for City
Musiala has been identified as a “top target” by the Premier League champions ahead of the summer transfer window, according to The Guardian.
The newspaper believes that City’s interest is “advanced” but Bayern would demand a sizeable fee if they were to consider letting him leave the Allianz Arena.
Reports have even suggested that Pep Guardiola’s side could offer as much as £120m for Musiala, which would be a club record.
Will Bayern let Musiala go?
It should be pointed out that not every source believes that the midfielder will be on the move at the end of the season. Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has repeatedly played down the chances of the 21-year-old leaving Germany.
The player will still have two years left on his contract at Bayern when the campaign is over and talks over an extension could begin in the coming months.
While it seems clear that City would be keen on recruiting Musiala, they may have a big challenge in convincing his club to let him go. They would probably need to get the approval of the German before making a concerted effort to secure his signature this summer.
