Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to conquer America with their tell-all stories and Netflix documentary, however an ill-advised deal with Spotify was a major disappointment and drain on their resources, and the couple wants to now recoup some wealth.
The manner in which the former Royal couple are going about this is branching out into film production, with the pair signing a deal with Netflix to produce a feature film.
Harry and Meghan paid over 3 million dollars to purchase the rights to a novel, which they now intend to turn into a feature Netflix production.
What is the novel about?
Rather interestingly, the novel entitled ‘Meet me at the Lake’ was written by Carley Fortune, and it is set around a couple who meet in their 30s after childhood trauma, mental health woes and a parent killed in a car crash.
You can, thus, see the reasons why the couple would choose this particular story. It is very similar to the painful lives they both have lived before finding each other in a romantic sense.
The book sold 37,000 copies in its first week after release and there is hope that it will be a truly major hit on the streaming platform.
It’s unclear if the pair will direct the film themselves or take on an overseeing role, bringing in high quality personnel to produce the project and ensure it makes them the most money.
Why are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle doing this?
Whilst not only interested in wealth, the former Royal couple want to rebuild their reputation in Hollywood.
They want to be A-List stars and their disastrous podcasting deal with Spotify has indeed dented their brand.
In order to rebuild credibility, the duo are hoping to captain this project and make it a real success, something that will make the rest of Hollywood talk and want to work with them in the future.
