According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester City have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid over the chances of signing Hachraf Akimi, who is currently plying his trade at Borussia Dortmund. Alongside, Chelsea and Tottenham have also expressed their interest in signing the full-back.

Citizens appear keen on reinforcing their right-back slot after having been linked with Barcelona’s Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto, with the former one being linked in a straight swap deal involving Joao Cancelo.

    Dortmund’s intention to keep Hakimi

Having been prolific for Die Borussen for the past two seasons, Hakimi is due to leave the Signal Iduna Park at the end of the season – his agent has confirmed that they will return to Real Madrid this summer.

However, Dortmund are reportedly planning on extending the Moroccan’s stay in Germany, at least for one season.

Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc said, for Goal.com:

“The contractual situation is clear, he will return to Real Madrid for the time being. We will still try to get him to play with us next season, but it is too early to discuss that now.”

Nonetheless, the 21-year-old has made no secret on playing at his parent club as he sees his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Hakimi continues to be an asset for Dortmund

In his first season in Bundesliga after securing his loan move from the Spanish Capital club, Hakimi didn’t waste any time in making his presence felt for Die Borussen, racking up 3 goals and 7 assists in all competitions while operating at both the flanks. The 19/20 campaign has been an upgrade over the last one, having contributed for around 20 goals – 9 goals and 10 assists so far. Under Lucian Favre’s 3-4-3 system, Hakimi attained the license to stamp his authority on the side’s offensive unit, mainly operating as a wing-back – the reason behind such numbers.

City intending to reinforce their defence

The Sky Blues are intending to strengthen their defence ahead of next season as their back-line has been a disappointment this term. Having been linked with centre-backs like Caglar Soyuncu, they are also looking to more depth to the right-back position given that Cancelo has been below-average. Considering all this, City’s interest in signing Hakimi comes as a valid one.

However, City’s Champions League ban could affect the arrival of Hakimi as he will be provided with such luxury at his parent club.
