Just when you think we’ve reached bottom of the barrel – Lawrie Sanchez on Newcastle United

This is very impressive from Lawrie Sanchez.

Just when you think we have reached the bottom of the barrel….

Somebody comes along and absolutely astonishes you with their stupidity.

Lawrie Sanchez commenting on Newcastle United and Steve Bruce, with Sanchez seemingly allergic to saying anything based on fact…

Lawrie Sanchez speaking to The Transfer Tavern about Steve Bruce:

    NFL Betting

“I don’t think he [Steve Bruce] will call it a day [this summer].

“He is near 1000 games [as a manager – 466 of them being Premier League games so far].

“He’s done a cracking job at keeping them [Newcastle United] up there.

“He will always get a job because he will always get you promoted or keeps you up – that’s his forte.

“Being a Newcastle boy, he would like to be given a chance with a bit of money to spend.

“But as we all know, we saw it with West Ham, they get rid of the English manager and bring in a foreigner to spend it and then have to go back to the English manager to sort out the problem afterwards.

“I would imagine that’s what will happen with Newcastle.”

    Honestly, where do you start?

Steve Bruce has failed any number of seasons to get clubs promoted from the lower divisions and as for always keeping you up…Bruce was relegated with Birmingham in 2006, Hull in 2015, sacked by Huddersfield in October 2000 as he threatened to relegate them from the second tier – not get promoted, sacked by Sunderland in Nov 2011 as he looked set to relegate them. Sacked by Championship Villain Oct 2018 as Bruce was looking more likely to relegate them to the third tier than get them promoted to the Premier League.

If you are wondering about Lawrie Sanchez and his top level managerial expertise, Apollon Smynris in Greece was his last manager’s job in 2014, before that managing at the likes of Barnet and Wycombe.

Sanchez’ only Premier League job saw him last only eight months at Fulham in 2007, ironically a defeat to Newcastle United saw him sacked in December 2007, leaving Fulham in the relegation zone.

However, surely the absolute stand out classic was this…‘Being a Newcastle boy, he would like to be given a chance with a bit of money to spend but…they get rid of the English manager and bring in a foreigner to spend it and then have to go back to the English manager to sort out the problem afterwards. I would imagine that’s what will happen with Newcastle.’

Exactly which planet has Lawrie Sanchez been living on?

So the ‘foreigner’ (Rafa Benitez) is allowed zero net spend on players in his three years at Newcastle United and yet gets NUFC promoted as champions and two mid-table finishes despite the lack of backing, before being forced out by Mike Ashley (Rafa having the eighth best form in the Premier League in his final 28 NUFC matches, the fifth best PL form in his final 16 PL games).

Then the ‘English manager’ (Steve Bruce) comes in, Ashley allows him a net spend of over £100m in his first three transfer windows and it ends up in a relegation fight, with the good old ‘English manager’ in 16th place with two matches to go, desperately grateful that there were three such poor clubs at the very bottom who got relegated, all three of them managed by good old…English managers.
