‘I’m the James Milner of the Championship’, says Ghanaian attacker Albert Adomah

Ghanaian forward Albert Adomah has likened himself to the “James Milner of the Championship” as he aims to extend his record-breaking run of 525 appearances in the second tier.

Adomah will be leaving Queens Park Rangers at the end of the season as his current contract expires, but the 36-year-old has no plans to hang up his boots.

During his team’s 4-0 victory against Leeds United last week, Adomah cemented his position at the top of the all-time Championship appearances list.

James Milner, a three-time Premier League title winner, boasts 640 Premier League appearances over a career spanning more than two decades.

In an interview with BBC Radio London, Adomah expressed his desire to retire at the club if he had the choice but believes he still has at least one more season in him.

“I always tell myself I’m the James Milner of the Championship, I think that’s the best way to put it,” he said.

“He started younger than me, I started when I was 20, but I’ve got this longevity still playing for nearly 17 years I believe now,” he added.

Adomah kicked off his professional career at Barnet in 2008, where he was sponsored by the legendary BBC commentator John Motson.

Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions to clubs such as Barnet, Bristol City, Middlesbrough, and Aston Villa, culminating in Villa’s 2018-19 Championship play-off final victory against Derby County.

Following brief stints at Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City on loan, he joined QPR in 2020. Adomah, who has earned 19 international caps and scored two goals for Ghana, could make his final appearance for QPR against Coventry City on the Championship’s final day this Saturday.
