Young Paraguayan winger Rodney Redes reportedly moving to MLS in 2021

Rodney Redes, a 20-year-old winger with Paraguay’s Club Guarani, is set to move to MLS for the 2021 season according to reports out of Paraguay.

Daniel Serna of Paraguay’s Universo 970 AM first reported the news on Saturday, and Redes’ agent confirmed it on the same station Monday, saying the transfer was almost complete. The agent did not specify where in MLS Redes would land, though he said he would be the first Paraguayan player to join the unnamed club.

Redes had been enjoying a bit of a breakout season before the COVID-19 pandemic brought it to a halt, with three goals in eight Copa Libertadores matches and two more in six Paraguayan league fixtures.

He’s in his third professional season, having established himself as a regular starter in short order on the left after his debut in 2018.
