Wilshere plotting MLS move to kick-start career

    Date published: Sunday 25th October 2020 1:22

Jack Wilshere is eyeing up a move to the MLS after being released by West Ham, according to reports.

The midfielder broke through Arsenal’s youth system and made his first-team debut when he was just 16. In the process, he became the Premier League’s youngest-ever player.

During his debut season, he also became only the fifth 16-year-old to make an appearance in the Champions League.

Wilshere had a loan spell at Bolton, before becoming a mainstay in Arsenal’s first team in 2010/11. He made 49 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners that season, as he also earned his first senior cap for England aged just 18.

But from here his injury woes started. He suffered a stress fracture to his ankle, before injuring his knee during his recovery. This kept him out of the entire 2011/12 Premier League season.

Wilshere was rated as one of the best young midfielders in Europe when he broke through at Arsenal. But injury after injury began to hold back his development.

After he made just three appearances in 2015/16, he joined Bournemouth on loan for the 2016/17 campaign. He looked to be getting back to his best under Eddie Howe, making 29 appearances.

Yet his spell for the Cherries ended horribly as he suffered another injury in April that kept him out for several months.

Wilshere spent one more season at Arsenal before he joined West ham ahead of the 2018/19 season. But his injury struggles have continued, as he only made 16 league appearances in his two years at the London Stadium.

The 28-year-old was let go by the Hammers this summer, as he now eyes a move that can get his career back up and running.

Wilshere has reportedly received a lot of interest across Europe during the transfer window. But the Daily Mirror have reported that he favours a move to the MLS.
