West Ham leading Tottenham in race for Sam Johnstone

West Ham leading Tottenham in race for Sam Johnstone

    Sam Johnstone’s West Brom stint

West Brom of course secured a return to the Premier League last summer.

However, the Baggies are now set for a swift return to the Championship.

Following a defeat to Arsenal last weekend, Sam Allardyce’s men joined Sheffield United and Fulham in being officially relegated to England’s second tier.

When a side is sent packing to the Championship, there are generally a number of players whom fellow Premier League clubs go on to express an interest in.

West Brom do not boast an awful lot of target-worthy options as things stand, but perhaps the most obvious comes in the form of Sam Johnstone.

Johnstone signed for the Baggies from Manchester United in 2018, and was essential in the Midlands-based outfit securing promotion to the Premier League.

Now, though, with the reality of relegation setting in, it appears that West Brom have opened to parting with the shot-stopper, for the right price.

    West Ham eyeing Johnstone

It was reported at the beginning of the month that West Brom would demand around £20m for Johnstone if relegated, which they have of course since been:

The same report also mentioned interest in the 28-year-old from former club, Man United.

This weekend, though, Football Insider have suggested that it is a pair of London-based Premier League sides who are in fact leading the race for Johnstone.

FI claim that West Ham have leapfrogged Tottenham to take the lead in the race to sign the goalkeeper, with the Hammers readying an official offer.
