Werner looking forward to ‘successful future’ as Chelsea confirm transfer agreement

Timo Werner says he is looking forward to a ‘successful future’ at Chelsea following the confirmation of his move to Stamford Bridge.

The Germany international becomes the latest marquee arrival at Chelsea this summer after completing a hugely anticipated move from RB Leipzig, the forward agreeing a five-year contract with Frank Lampard’s side, subject to a medical.

Werner has developed a reputation as one of the most exciting forwards in European football following a prolific period with Leipzig, the 24-year-old having scored 32 goals in all competitions for the Bundesliga side so far this season with two games remaining.

The confirmed arrival of Werner is the latest statement of intent for Chelsea and follows the earlier signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, and the German has now spoken of his pride at securing a big-money move to the Premier League.

“I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club,” Werner told the official Chelsea website.

“I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years. You will forever be in my heart.

“I look forward to next season with my new team-mates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans. Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.”

Meanwhile, Werner has reportedly made the decision to withdraw from Leipzig’s Champions League squad to concentrate on his move to Chelsea, with the German side having progressed to the last eight of the competition for the first time in their history.

The conclusion of Europe’s leading competition is set to take place over a 12-day period in August in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, though Werner will not play for Leipzig in the latter stages as he prepares for the new season at Stamford Bridge.
