We need a local coach to handle the Black Stars – Wilberforce Mfum

Former Ghana star Wilberforce Mfum has advocated for local coaches to manage the senior national football team the Black Stars.

The debate as to whether Ghana stick to a local coach has been up for years as a session of Ghanaians believes that the four Africa Cup of Nations titles were won by indigenous coaches.

Following the sacking of Serbian gaffer, Milovan Rajevac, the former Kotoko star has clamored for the appointment of a local trainer to steer affairs of the Black Stars.

In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, he said, “The Black Man is capable of managing its own affairs. We haven’t won any trophy with the black stars despite paying $50,000 monthly for foreign coaches”

“It is about time Sports journalists come together and tell football people the truth. They need to stop the favoritism when selecting players for the national team. We must depend on our own black people because they are capable of managing our own affairs. In fact, we need a local coach to lead the Black Stars”

Wilberforce Mfum was a member of the Black Stars squad that won the 1963 Africa Cup of Nations.
