Villarreal Still in fine form
Santi Cazorla isn’t thinking about next season just yet.
The veteran midfielder has starred for Villarreal in recent weeks but there are doubts over whether he’ll continue playing beyond the summer.
“Life has taught me to live day by day and not to make long term plans,” Cazorla told Radio MARCA.
“I want to enjoy each training session and listen to my body.”
Had Euro 2020 not been postponed until 2021, Cazorla would have been expected to make Spain’s final squad for the tournament.
“It’s a shame the Euros was postponed – we had high hopes and we would’ve played in Bilbao,” he said.
“Before, it was unthinkable that I’d play [at Euro 2020], but I was really hopeful of playing.”
Instead of looking forward to next season and Euro 2021, the 35-year-old is remaining focused on helping Villarreal qualify for Europe.
“It’s clear that we have an ideal position to fight for the European places from now until the end of the season,” Cazorla said.
“We’re in great form. We weren’t so much before the break [in the season].
“We’ve taken advantage [of the break] to clear our heads.”
