Viewers spot Illan Meslier confronting Fulham fans after Leeds United win the penalty shootout in Tuesday’s Carabao cup meeting.
The 21 year old Frenchman won a huge amount of praise not just for his superb saves, but for also staring down the home supporters after what ended up being the last spot kick.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side booked their place in the fourth round of the competition after a 6-5 penalty shoot-out victory which followed a goalless draw as can be seen below…
Meslier won the match as he saved Rodrigo Muniz’s spot-kick and afterwards, a short video clip was uploaded to social media it shows him move around his post towards the Cottagers faithful – who’d been taunting him beforehand – and look at them in their eyes.
Fansite MOTLeedsNews said: “Meslier is going from strength to strength with Leeds.
“While he was on the whole very impressive last season in his first full campaign as Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice goalkeeper, he was still prone to the odd mistake.
“We forgave Meslier every time though because the Frenchman pulled off stunning save after stunning save and even this season, we’ve noticed that he doesn’t seem to be as error-prone.
“He was brilliant against Newcastle last Friday and was in fine form again on Tuesday at Craven Cottage to help us win the penalty shoot-out and take a step further in the Carabao Cup.

“We’ve got a really great talent on our hands in Meslier, who’s already shown at the age of 21 that he can be a top-class Premier League goalkeeper.
“It won’t be long before he’s drawing attention from top clubs in the Premier League and across Europe but let’s hope we can keep him of the former Lorient shot-stopper as long as possible.
“He’s absolutely fantastic.”
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa: “It was difficult for us. We conceded too many chances to the opponent. It was difficult for all our players.
“They showed personality and character. Gelhardt had missed his last two penalties and took on board the responsibility and managed to score and McKinstry also had to take one in the most decisive moments and they showed character.”
Fulham boss Marco Silva: “When I made 11 changes in the starting XI and I saw our team match our opponent like we did this evening – of course I’m not happy with the result – like all of us I think we deserved something more from the game.
“But the result is what it is, but we have to be proud of our players and what they did and how they played for the 95 minutes, with very good intensity in some moments of the game.
“Unfortunately in the penalties they were more competent than us, because for me it’s not just a matter of luck or not. But I’m proud of what we did and our players.
“The ball went to the crossbar of the post and we lost in penalties as well, but by working the way that we are doing and the way that we will keep doing, the good moments will come for us.”
Leeds; Bielsa, who was booked during the second half, will hope his side can now carry the positivity from this result into the league as they search for a first Premier League win of the season against West Ham on Saturday, while Fulham travel to Bristol City.
