Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he won’t participate in this month’s US Open.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament is still going ahead in New York, though concerns have led to Nadal opting out.
“After a lot of thought I have decided not to participate in this year’s US Open,” Nadal said in a statement.
“The health situation is very complicated around the world and COVID-19 outbreaks seem to be out of control.”
Nadal had previously made it clear that he wasn’t particularly comfortable with the idea of taking a flight to the United States.
The Spaniard has been spending some of his recent downtime practising his golf, proving to be quite capable with a golf club in his hands.
