Galatasaray have added Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen to their list of summer transfer targets, according to reports in Turkey.
Vertonghen is out of contract at the end of the season and appears no closer to agreeing a new deal with Spurs. Last week we relayed a Sky Sports story that claimed the club is yet to discover whether Vertonghen intends to play beyond his current contract at the end of the month.
And now, Turkish outlet Milliyet claims the Belgian is being targeted by Galatasaray. The Super Lig giants would be allowed to talk to Vertonghen now and could sign him on a free transfer ahead of next season.
However, the report suggests there are doubts over whether Galatasaray are willing to pay Vertonghen big wages because of his age – though it is believed they are targeting the 33-year-old for his experience.
The more stories that emerge like this, the more likely it seems that Vertonghen’s time at Tottenham is coming to an end. And despite being a fan favourite, most Spurs supporters will surely accept it is the right time for a parting of ways.
