Tottenham want to re-sign 21-year-old ace in sensational €20-25m deal – report

Tottenham want to sign former attacker Marcus Edwards from Vitoria de Guimaraes, according to reports from Portugal.

The 21-year-old, who was once described as a ‘mini Lionel Messi’ by former boss Mauricio Pochettino during 2016, left the club last summer on a free transfer after making just one appearance in an EFL Cup tie against Gillingham at the beginning of the 2016-2017 season.

Edwards often stood out in games for Spurs’ U23s and U18s – most notably in the UEFA Youth League – but his 15-minute cameo against the Gills was his only first-team chance.

Big things were expected of Edwards when he emerged through Spurs’ youth setup, but he was never given the opportunity to showcase his talent – with a disasterous loan spell at Norwich City in 2018 not helping his cause, in which he returned after featuring just once under Daniel Farke, with his attitude coming under scrutiny during his time at Carrow Road.

However, since moving to Portugal, he’s finally starting to show his full potential – scoring seven goals and adding assists in all competitions this term, including the opener in a Europa League group stage defeat against Arsenal earlier on in the campaign.

And now, according to Desportivo de Guimaraes, relayed by Record, Spurs are keen on re-signing Edwards – and have the advantage over Manchester United, who’re also interested, as they have a clause which means they’re due 50% of a future sale, but would have to pay between €20-25m to convince the youngster to make a return to the Premier League.
