Tottenham interested in signing 20-year-old defender compared to Wan-Bissaka

Tottenham are interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell, according to The Athletic.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Selhurst Park outfit from Brentford at the end of the 2015-2016 campaign, is yet to feature for Palace’s first-team, but has been named on Roy Hogdson’s bench four times this season – including Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley.

According to The Athletic’s Crystal Palace writer Matt Woosnam, the left-back first caught the eye when impressing for the Eagles during their pre-season tour of Switzerland last summer, which saw him compared to Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Despite those excellent performances, Mitchell hasn’t been given a senior opportunity by Hodgson, although with Palace’s chances of finishing in Europe looking slim after last nights loss, he’ll be hoping to play some part in their final six Premier League matches.

Woosman said that Mitchell has a similar style to ex-Eagle Wan-Bissaka, possessing great pace, energy and is effective at both ends of the pitch.

He only signed a new deal in January 2019, but Spurs want to give him the chance to make the step up rather than continuing his development in south London.

Jose Mourinho already has two left-backs in Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon, but Danny Rose is expected to leave in the summer, which could open the door for Mitchell to bolster Tottenham’s full-back department.
