Tottenham attacker returns to training in major boost for Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Giovani Lo Celso has returned to training and is “couple” of weeks away from returning to playing action.

The Argentine attacker hasn’t featured since sustaining a hamstring problem during the 2-0 defeat to Leicester City before Christmas.

Prior to his injury, Lo Celso was struggling for regular game-time in the Premier League, making just four starts in total, and has missed the previous 16 matches in all competitions having been sidelined for more than two months since suffering damage to his hamstring.

But the Spurs boss provided a positive update on Lo Celso’s fitness, and whilst he’s set to miss tomorrow’s European tie against Wolfsberger and Premier League games with Burnley, Fulham and Crystal Palace in the coming days, the former Real Betis midfielder might be targeting a return to action for next month’s north London derby at Arsenal on 14 March.

Mourinho told Tottenham’s official website: “Gio is not coming back, but coming back to training with the team, which is a big step and a very important one. Even today he was training for the first time, of course, with lots of protection in relation to what he could or could not do.

“But that beautiful relationship between Gio and the ball is magnificent, so it’s good news. It’s maybe a couple of weeks to play, but let’s say if everything goes well, we are on the countdown.”
