Steve Bruce confirms 6 Newcastle United players who miss Sheffield United match, probably 7

Steve Bruce has been talking to journalists ahead of Wednesday night’s game at St James Park against Sheffield United.

The last St James Park match saw Man City celebrating winning the Premier League title with a 4-3 victory, the NUFC players giving a guard of honour before kick-off.

From facing by far the best Premier League team of 2020/21, tomorrow night it is the very worst, rock bottom Sheffield United the visitors.

If Brighton get a point or better at home to Man City on Tuesday night it would leave Steve Bruce with only the three relegation sides below him.

However, a win over the Blades would see Steve Bruce and his team potentially soar as high as fifteenth.

The end of season possibilities appearing to range realistically between thirteenth and seventeeth and with games against two clubs already relegated, a morale boosting double is desperately needed.

Not to mention the fact that the difference in terms of TV payment based on position in the Premier League is £3.2m for each place, so some £12.8m to play for between finishing seventeenth and thirteenth.

When it comes to team selection to hopefully bring about that victory, Steve Bruce has given a Tuesday update on fitness and availability.

The Newcastle United Head Coach revealing that at least six Newcastle United players will miss Wednesday’s match.

Fabian Schar will miss out in his third of three matches he is banned for, only able to play against Fulham in the very final game.

Whilst Callum Wilson, Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles are out for the season.

The club released training images on Monday which included Ryan Fraser and Isaac Hayden, raising hopes of a possible quick return.

However, Steve Bruce has dashed those hopes, saying he can’t see either of them playing again this season and that neither has joined in with full training as yet.

Indeed, with Ryan Fraser, Steve Bruce went a big step further in the main press conference.

Bruce warning Scotland it would be a massive risk taking Fraser to the Euros this summer, as he’s now been out injured for eight and a half weeks with a groin problem. Euro 2021 doesn’t kick-off for another three and a half weeks, the very latest countries can confirm their 26 man squads is 1 June, in 13 days time.

Meanwhile, Elliot Anderson was also included in yesterday’s training images but Steve Bruce says that was his first session in eight days due to a hip problem. Bruce doesn’t rule the teenager out but says he will be cautious. Surely no chance of him starting and Anderson making it seven NUFC players who definitely won’t be in the team that kicks off against Sheffield United. Whilst even from the bench it would surely be an unnecessary risk, better to wait and see how he is on Sunday for the Fulham match.

Steve Bruce speaking to BBC Newcastle ahead of the match against Manchester City:

Steve Bruce tells BBC Newcastle he “can’t see” Isaac Hayden or Ryan Fraser playing again this season:

“They haven’t joined in (with full training).

“They’re both probably raring to go but with five days to go… why risk them?

“I wouldn’t be risking it with the two of them.”

    On Elliot Anderson:

“He’s had a bit of a bad hip.

“He trained yesterday for the first time in eight days.

“He’s desperate to be involved, of course, but we’ll see how he is.

“I’m not going to risk him for the sake of it, if he’s sore.”

On Paul Dummett, who could make his 200th Newcastle United appearance on Wednesday:

    “A real significant achievement.

“There’s nothing better than somebody coming through the ranks because they understand what it means to the people.

“He’s proven how good he is.”
