Tottenham are ready to make their first official offer for Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, according to the Daily Star.
Hojbjerg has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs since Sky Sports first broke news of Jose Mourinho’s interest back in January. Last month we relayed a Telegraph story claiming a final decision on pursuing Hojbjerg this summer was yet to be made. But now it seems the Londoners are ready to turn their interest into a bonafide pursuit.
The Star reports that Tottenham are ‘poised to make an opening bid’ for Hojbjerg, who has been told he can leave by Southampton. However, Spurs could apparently face competition from Everton for the 24-year-old’s signature.
Both suitors are said to be unwilling to pay the £35 million Southampton asked for back in the January transfer window. That makes sense because the Saints skipper only has one year left on his contract.
If Tottenham can’t get Southampton to come down on their price, perhaps Daniel Levy will try to use Kyle Walker-Peters – currently on loan at St. Mary’s – as a bargaining chip.
