Shearer Names Three City Players As He Selects His England XI For The Euros

Alan Shearer wants Manchester City pair Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling to start for England at this summer’s European Championships.

In the backline, the BBC pundit also named John Stones as Harry Maguire’s partner at centre-half, with Luke Shaw and Trent Alexander-Arnold as the two fullbacks.

Shearer surprisingly named Jordan Henderson alongside West Ham’s Declan Rice in the middle of the park, despite the Liverpool captain being a major doubt for the tournament due to a groin injury.

Explaining his front four, Shearer went with Foden, Sterling and Mason Mount who he says are all deserving of their places alongside Harry Kane:

“Mount, as we said before the game, I think he’s a guaranteed starter, as well be Foden I’m hoping because of the ability of those two, and Harry Kane and Sterling as well.”

It is certainly an interesting starting XI from Shearer. It remains to be seen whether Gareth Southgate would even opt for a 4-3-3, when the England head coach has often favoured 3-4-3 in recent games.

On top of that, reports today suggest Alexander-Arnold is not even in contention for the 26-man squad so the pundit may have to revise his starting lineup soon.
