Roy Keane’s take on Jurgen Klopp’s spiky Sky Sports interview

Roy Keane has defended Jurgen Klopp’s spiky post-match interview with Sky Sports after his Liverpool side were thumped 4-0 by Manchester City.

The champions were taken apart by a ruthless Man City side, who still have FA Cup and Champions League glory to chase this season.

City gave a reminder of their quality on what proved a sobering night for Liverpool, who were given a guard of honour by their hosts in their first match since securing the Premier League title last week.

Liverpool boss Klopp pinpointed set-pieces as a weakness of his City, but took offence to the line of questioning from Sky Sports’ Geoff Shreeves at the final whistle.

Klopp was agitated after Shreeves suggested his players may have taken their eye off the ball after wrapping up the title without playing last week.

But Keane said the German’s defensive approach was natural and shows why he in one of the best manager’s in the world.

“It’s human nature. You’re gonna be slacking off. I was fortunate enough to play in some good teams where you won the league with two games to go, and you do switch off,” Keane told Sky Sports at full time.

“You end up at the pub for a week or two and you’re trying to get back in the swing of things. It’s different for City tonight because they’ve got other competitions.

    ‘He’s fuming’

“The reason they’re champions and why they’ll be competing for the next couple of years is because of that interview. He’s fuming.

“For me, it was nothing to do with the questions he was being asked, it was because his team got beat. He’s obviously gonna defend his team, but no top manager likes to get beat 4-0.

“They had chances and they were just lacking concentration.

“The effort was there and we watched the game live, and I think Liverpool’s attitude was fine. It’s human nature that they were gonna slack off.

“That’s why they’re champions. They’re fuming to being beaten 4-0.”
