Ronaldo takes central role in Carrick’s first Man United training session

Video: Cristiano Ronaldo takes central role in Michael Carrick’s first Man United training session

Footage of the maiden training session held by interim Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has surfaced online this evening.

    Ole moves on

Ex-Red Devils midfielder Carrick has of course seen his name cast into the spotlight over the last 24 hours.

This comes on the back of those in a position of power at Old Trafford finally deciding that enough was enough when it came to the struggles of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

An embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of struggling Watford on Saturday proved the straw that broke the camel’s back, culminating in Solskjaer being relieved of his duties with immediate effect:

A whole host of world football’s most high-profile managers, in turn, have been tipped to take up the reins on the red half of Manchester, with Paris Saint-Germain headmaster Mauricio Pochettino currently viewed as the front-runner for the role.

As it stands, though, United will be required to navigate at least the club’s next couple of fixtures under the watch of the aforementioned Carrick.

After acting as Solskjaer’s right-hand man across his time on the bench at Old Trafford, one-time Red Devils midfielder Carrick will now be entrusted with steadying the ship amid an increasingly uncertain time for those of a United persuasion.

The 40-year-old’s first task will come on Tuesday evening, when the Red Devils are set to make the trip to Spain, for a crunch Champions League group stage showdown with Villarreal.

In turn, as alluded to above, Carrick, earlier today, oversaw his first training session since taking up the reins in Manchester.

And one notable takeaway came in the form of the prominent role played by star man Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese evidently keen to take on a leader’s role in the wake of Solskjaer’s exit:
