Roma ready to give everything in bid to sign Smalling

Serie A outfit will try their best to sign Chris Smalling from Manchester United this summer based on reports in Italy. The England defender has returned to Old Trafford after the end of his loan spell in Serie A.

Smalling made 37 appearances for Roma in all competitions last season and they were interested in making the deal permanent. However, they failed to reach an agreement with Man United’s representatives.

Meanwhile, there have been rumors of interest in the 30-year-old from Premier League clubs like Fulham, Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham.

Regardless, Il Tempo (via Sport Witness) have claimed that Roma are ready to resurrect their interest and are willing to throw in everything to capture the defender on a permanent deal.

Roma boss Paulo Fonseca is eager to bring Smalling back to Serie A and has agreed with new club owner Dan Friedkin that it’s a good move for the club.

Talks over a potential deal between the two clubs are now being handled by Roma’s CEO Guido Fienga and he has been tasked with completing the negotiations with Manchester United.

Roma are looking at between €16-17m as their complete expenditure to seal a deal for the defender. Smalling is interested in a permanent move to Roma and this should play to Roma’s advantage as they bargain for the player.

A move to Serie A to join Roma will be ideal for Chris Smalling considering that he was sent out on loan last season having being considered surplus to requirements at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.

It’s possible that the English defender will want more playing time and may not get it at Man United under Solskjaer, considering their defensive improvements towards the end of last season. Regardless, it remains to be seen if the Serie A outfit will be willing to meet any valuation above €16-17m.
