An intermediary claims Roma have made an ‘official offer’ for Edinson Cavani but hints he will only sign if Dan Friedkin completes his takeover.
It is already confirmed that Cavani would be leaving PSG at the end of the season.
The 33-year-old has seen himself fall out of favour at the Parc des Princes since the arrival of Mauro Icardi.
While Cavani would put his seven-year stay in France to an end, other clubs elsewhere are still vying for his signature. Despite his age, the Uruguayan remains one of the most experienced forwards around.
Former side Napoli as well as Boca Juniors have expressed their interest in the veteran forward. But over the past few days, reports indicate Roma are the ones leading the race to sign the striker.
Gaston Fernandez who has close ties to Cavani and Walter Guglielmone, who is the striker’s brother and agent has now spoken about an offer from Roma.
The Giallarosi have also been subject of a takeover as American billionaire Dan Friedkin looks to secure the club from Jim Pallota. That could be the major factor in any potential move according to Fernandez.
“There’s an official offer for Cavani,” he told Ovacion.
“[Roma] asked me to send a formal offer to Walter Guglielmone [Cavani’s brother and agent] and, if that group finally buy Roma, they want Edinson in the team.
“Everything will depend on whether or not they buy Roma because, even if negotiations are advanced, it’s not easy to buy a club of that prestige today.
“There are many things for them to consider, but one of their priorities, if the deal goes through, is to sign Cavani.”
