Ricky Rubio injury update: How does he plan to come back stronger?

Ricky Rubio is still recovering from the serious injury he suffered in December 2021 at the Smoothie King Center, and he has been talking about his new season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, with whom he signed an 18 million dollar deal for three years this summer.

During the Cavs‘ Media Day, Rubio acknowledged that he had a pending assignment with the Cavaliers, after the team traded the Spaniard to the Indiana Pacers (with whom he never made his debut) after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Ricky Rubio does not set a date for his return

The question on everyone’s mind in Cleveland and in Spain is when will Ricky Rubio return to the court?

“I wanted to be ready for training camp (pre-season), but I knew it was impossible,” Rubio said.

“Talking to my trainers and medical staff they say my recovery will take 10 to 12 months, but it’s a long time. It changes every week. But I think it’s not good to put a date on when I’m going to be back.”

“It could be six weeks but in five I could be ready to play. I hope that in December I can play but who knows.”

At this point in his recovery Rubio is already able to jump on the court to perform certain basic exercises.

“I’ve been working hard this summer, putting in a lot of work on my part,” Rubio continued.

“Let’s see how the next two or three weeks go, working with the team and then see how my mind and body connect to get back to playing again.

“The contact part will be the most important to see where I’m at. I’m going to take my time. I’m going to take it step by step and I’m getting there.”

Rubio is working to be at 100 percent when he reappears and he aims to come back better than before thanks to his mental, dietary, complete training regimen.

“I’ve had the best summer of my career,” Rubio stated. “I’ve even hired a cook for my house, something I’ve never had before.”
