Real Madrid vs Mallorca More changes in the line-up
Zinedine Zidane has unleashed the most attacking Real Madrid side in recent memory as he chose a surprising line-up of Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Vinicius Jr and Gareth Bale against Real Mallorca.
While it shouldn’t be unexpected as Zidane has already used 179 different starting XIs during his time on the Real Madrid bench, the loss of Casemiro, who is suspended, caused a re-think.
The 4-2-3-1 system has only two natural midfielders in Luka Modric and Fede Valverde, as Toni Kroos, who has started the first three matches since the resumption of LaLiga Santander, is rested. Isco only made the bench.
Three reasons have led Zidane to the BBVH revolution. The first is that he hopes to maintain Benzema’s scoring record, so far three goals in three games.
Second is to further explore the Hazard-Vinicius combination, with the Brazilian operating on the left, and the Belgian in the middle. Third is the return of Bale.
The Welshman hasn’t played any part since his disappointing performance against Eibar, sitting out the Valencia and Real Sociedad matches. But he has another chance, as Real Madrid go into the final stretch of the season.
Without Casemiro, Zidane has decided to throw everything at Mallorca. The dependable Benzema, the explosive Vinicius, a returning Hazard and the indescribable Bale.
