Real Madrid Los Blancos have not won the trophy before
Raul Gonzalez will be the coach of Real Madrid‘s Juvenil A (under-19s) team at the UEFA Youth League, which will take place between August 16 and 25 in Nyon.
The current Castilla boss will temporarily take charge of a team whose coach, Dani Poyatos, has left to become Panathinaikos head coach.
The fact that there is a vacancy on the bench (Real Madrid need to hire head coaches for Juvenil A and Juvenil B), together with the fact the Segunda Division B season does not yet have a date to restart, has led to the club allowing Raul to try and get Real Madrid to win their first European Cup at youth level.
On July 12, the Juvenil A squad will begin to prepare for their last-16 tie against Juventus, aided by having four players from Castilla: Antonio Blanco, Miguel Baeza, Marvin Park and Victor Chust.
If the Bianconeri are eliminated, Los Blancos will face the winner of the last-16 clash between Rennes and Inter in the quarter-finals.
The four Castilla players, all born in 2000, are all trusted by Raul, who has given them important roles and game time during his first season as coach.
Blanco is a leader in midfield, Baeza is the top scorer, Marvin grew a lot as a player and Chust has settled in the centre of defence.
Pedro Ruiz used to be another option, but he is injured.
Along with them will be Miguel Gutierrez, who has been training with the first team since the break, along with Xavier Sintes, Ivan Morante, Jordi Martin, Sergio Arribas, Carlos Dotor and more.
In fact, this period will allow Raul to evaluate some of the players he will be in charge of next year, as a large part of the squad will make the jump to Castilla.
