Real Madrid Revenge after his 4-0 loss in 2014
The seemingly unbeatable Zinedine Zidane has finally lost a knockout tie in the Champions League and he did so at the hands of Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola finally got revenge for the 4-0 drubbing he received as Bayern Munich coach in 2014 when the Bavarians lost to a side managed by Carlo Ancelotti, with Zidane as assistant coach that night.
This tie was his first competitive clash with Real Madrid since then and he has emerged victorious.
Having managed Barcelona, the Catalan coach admitted that there is an extra motivation for him when playing Real Madrid and on Friday night he followed up his side’s first leg victory with another win at home.
But the key point for Guardiola is that his team are now in the latter stages of the competition.
There is still much to do for the Manchester City coach if he wants to satisfy his club’s European ambitions, but this triumph over Real Madrid is a major step forward.
