Real Madrid Set to return for pre-season
Real Madrid are yet to make any progress with their two priority sales this summer.
Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez remain at the club as Los Blancos look to find a solution to their difficult situations.
As it stands, both players will return to Valdebebas for the start of pre-season next week, coming face to face with Zinedine Zidane again.
Neither Bale nor James have been in Zidane‘s plans for a while, with the French coach breaking any relationship he had with the two last season.
The pair didn’t feature much for Real Madrid last campaign, especially in the weeks after the return from lockdown.
The trouble is that both players are on big wages, which makes them difficult to shift because other clubs are reluctant to take them on.
In Bale‘s case, he’s still got two years left on his deal at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and is the highest earner at the club.
Real Madrid have made it their duty to find a new club for the Welshman, who is becoming a problem in the dressing room.
As for James, he’s spoken out against Zidane recently because of his lack of game time.
“Not playing is frustrating,” James explained in an interview on Daniel Habif’s podcast.
“I know I have the conditions to always play, but because of other people I can’t do it.
“If I were a bad footballer then I would accept it, but I’m a person who will always want to win and compete.
“[Zidane] has his own tastes for some players and you have to respect that, I don’t get involved with things like that.
“When you see that you don’t have the same opportunities as your teammates, it’s difficult.”
