RB Leipzig’s Christopher Vivell has spoken of interest from the Bundesliga club in signing their former striker, Timo Werner, from Chelsea.
“We’ve been in contact with him since his move,” Vivell told Sky Germany. “But we’re not close to a deal and won’t announce anything until it makes sense.” Leipzig’s technical director went on to praise the 26-year-old forward: “Of course we find him exciting, he’s incredibly fast and a German international.”
Chelsea want €33m for Werner but RB Leipzig would rather sign the German international on loan rather than a permanent basis following their recent signing of David Raum.
Playing time is important for Werner as he looks to establish himself in Hansi Flick’s World Cup squad. The German forward played just 21 Premier League games last season for Chelsea, down from 35 during the 2020/21 campaign.
As reported by Kicker and others, Werner has signalled a desire to return to Leipzig and would also be willing to take a pay cut to move back to his former club.
