Rangers: Arsenal keen on re-signing Kamara

Steven Gerrard has seemingly been dealt a big blow in his hopes of keeping Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara at Ibrox this summer after it was reported that his former club Arsenal are prepared to offer him a five-year contract.

According to Football Insider, the north London side are keen to bring the Finland international back to the Premier League this summer and have made it known that they are willing to offer him a five-year deal.

The 25-year-old spent time in Arsenal’s academy as a youngster but was released in 2017 and later signed for Dundee, from whom Rangers were able to sign him for just £50,000 two years ago.

Do you think Kamara will return to Arsenal?

After playing an integral part in their title success this season, making 28 appearances in the Premiership and averaging a solid 6.90 WhoScored rating, the midfielder has attracted a lot of interest from the Premier League ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Light Blues reportedly value Kamara at around £10m and are keen to offer him a new deal to convince him to extend his stay at Ibrox, although he could well have his head turned by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

Neil McCann, Kamara’s former manager at Dundee, spoke highly of the Rangers ace earlier in the season in a piece for The Athletic, saying: “He isn’t a big, physical lad but he’s made of iron and really strong. I knew immediately that he could handle the ball under pressure and not give it away, so he was perfect.

“He’s a special talent. He makes things look easy and sometimes the easy thing is not as simple as it looks.”

Considering that he has been a mainstay in Gerrard’s side throughout the season, it would be a huge blow to the 40-year-old if Kamara were to leave ahead of the 2021/22 campaign; and given the wages Arsenal would be able to offer him, it would not be a surprise to see him depart Ibrox this summer.
