PSG manager Tuchel talks up Pogba and Fernandes threats ahead of group stage meeting with Man United

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has highlighted the threat posed by Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes ahead of his side’s clash with Manchester United tomorrow night.

Last season’s runners-up begin their quest for a maiden Champions League title when they host United at the Parc des Princes in their group stage opener, looking to secure a positive opening result in a difficult-looking group also containing RB Leipzig and Istanbul Başakşehir.

PSG were eliminated by the Red Devils in the last-16 two years ago following a memorable second leg fightback from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the French capital, Marcus Rashford’s late penalty dramatically sealing the visitor’s progress on away goals.

Tuchel has now discussed the strength of the Premier League outfit ahead of tomorrow’s clash and is wary of the threat posed by midfield duo Pogba and Fernandes, hailing the former as ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’ and praising the latter’s impact since arriving at Old Trafford earlier this year.

“They have new players, more options, more experience,” Tuchel told his pre-match press conference.

“Pogba is a key player. He is one of the best midfielders in the world. Fernandes has a lot of assists. He is delivering a lot to the really fast players.

“They are one of the best teams in transition. We need to keep the ball and impose our own game on them and prevent the counter-attack.”

PSG midfielder Ander Herrera, who spent five seasons as Manchester United player before moving to Paris, echoed his manager’s sentiments on Pogba, admitting his former teammate is a unique proposition and insisting the France international ‘has everything to win the Ballon d’Or’.

“Paul has got everything,” Herrera said. “There is no other like him, One on one, box to box, he has everything to win the Ballon D’Or if his club fights for the major trophies.”
