Premier League top 4 race could go to the wire

The race for the top four places of the 2019/20 Premier League heated further after third and fourth place Leicester City and Chelsea lost respectively to Everton and West Ham on Wednesday night.

The Foxes lost 2:1 at Goodison Park while the Blues succumbed to a 3:2 defeat against strugglers and relegation-threatened West Ham at the London Stadium. West Ham successfully completed a league double against Chelsea this season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Warriors who are chasing hotly for the UEFA Champions League places won away from home on against Brighton and Aston Villa.

The Red Devils put in class performance as they thrashed Brighton 3 nil at the Amex while Nuno Espirito Santo’s men won 1 nil away to Aston Villa at Villa Park, all on Tuesday.

We’re are set for cracking encounters in the coming weeks as just 3 points now separate third place Leicester City from sixth place Wolves.

Brendan Rodgers’ men have been struggling since football returned and are currently looking like a team that will give way. They’ve drawn 2 and lost 1 out of the last 3 games they’ve played.

Manchester United have been in excellent form and are now favorites for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. The Red Devils are yet to lose in their last 8 Premier League games and appear to have improved tremendously. This should be a cause for concern for the likes of Chelsea and Leicester City who are currently above them.

Wolves are also on a good run and have their eyes on a place for the UCL and have been impressive having won their last 3 games. Their away form is also impressive with 4 wins and 1 draw from 5 games.

They’ve also not conceded in their last 3 games, a pointer to a very solid defensive performance, unlike Chelsea and Leicester who have been conceding for fun.

Chelsea are looking good for a place in the UCL but have to be wary of the threat being posed by the chasing pack. Frank Lampard has a lot of work to do after his side conceded 3 against the Hammers.

David Moyes’ men hadn’t scored in their last 2 games but scored 3 against Chelsea. They even had to come from behind as the Blues’ back four were in tatters.

There are six games left to play and Manchester United and Wolves are the biggest winners thus far with Leicester City the biggest losers. The heat in the race just got heightened and we look forward to the weekend to see if there will be further detrimental slip-ups.

Man United host Bournemouth next at Old Trafford while Chelsea host Watford at Stamford Bridge. Wolves play host to Arsenal at the Molineux who they currently lead with 6 points.

Leicester City also play host to Crystal Palace in another potential banana peel encounter for the Foxes. We look forward to these games although we can say that not all of them will be on the winning side.
