Predicting Atlanta United’s XI vs Columbus Crew

With two losses in row, it’s not looking good for Atlanta United in the MLS is Back Tournament.

This was how Atlanta lined up vs Cincinnati:

The lineup was pretty much as predicted. The early red always called for a change of tactics and formation, but de Boer got it right to start it off. With now two consecutive losses, ideas and tactics need to change. Frank de Boer needs to try something new, how should he line up?

    This is my predicted lineup:

    Defense:

The defense has not looked comfortable at all this tournament, so de Boer should look to change things up and try out the back four again. Get Franco Escobar into his natural position where he is more comfortable. With Jake Mulraney’s red card, George Bello should be coming back in the starting lineup.

    Midfield:

This game will be fought in the midfield, so the midfield in a 4-3-3 is key if Atlanta wants to come out with a win. It needs to be balanced. The midfield that I chose has the three key players that brings the balance of defense and attack. Jeff Larentowicz is more of a defensive and physical presence, so he’d be a perfect player to start. Having that type of defensive midfielder could free up Emerson Hyndman and Matheus Rossetto to push up and attack more.

Eric Remedi could get a start in place of Hyndman to have a bit more control and defense in the midfield.

    Attack:

The attack should be the same as it was vs. Cincinnati. With one man down early, Pity Martinez and Ezequiel Barco were forced to come back and defend more. We may see Manuel Castro in the false nine role once again instead of Adam Jahn who is more a classic striker.

A lot needs to go right for Atlanta tomorrow. Can they pull off the win and go through?
