Predicted Liverpool XI to face Brentford

Liverpool will be aiming to keep pace at the top of the Premier League table when they travel to the Brentford Community Stadium this evening.

The Reds have picked up 13 points from a possible 15 in the opening weeks of the new campaign, with only European champions Chelsea holding them to a draw.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges should be fresh ahead of the tricky task posed by Brentford, though, after the German heavily rotated his side for the midweek Carabao Cup clash with Norwich City.

However, in Friday’s press conference, Klopp revealed that he is set to be without midfielders Thiago and Naby Keita due to injuries for the trip to the capital as the pair join Harvey Elliott on the treatment table.

On a more positive note, the 54-year-old did confirm that Trent Alexander-Arnold has recovered from illness in time to be selected, while Roberto Firmino is in contention to make his comeback.

With that in mind, here’s how Football FanCast expects Liverpool to line up against Brentford, with a full 11 changes from the side which saw off Norwich on Tuesday…

In goal, first-choice shot-stopper Alisson Becker will return to the starting lineup after being rested for the trip to Carrow Road, so youngster Caoimhin Kelleher is set to return to the bench.

Ahead of the Brazil international is expected to be a back four made up of Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, and they’ll be looking to maintain Liverpool’s solid defensive record so far this season.

The engine room will have an experienced look to it due to the extensive injury list. James Milner should make just his third start of 2021/22 after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain recorded a passing accuracy of just 73% against Norwich, giving the ball away on a whopping 20 occasions. That performance could see the Ox facing the axe today.

Joining the 35-year-old in midfield will be Fabinho and club captain Jordan Henderson, and the forward line will also have a familiar feel to it.

Firmino is unlikely to feature from the off after just returning to training, while Divock Origi’s good form may not be enough to earn him a first league start of the campaign.

The means the £90m-rated Mohamed Salah, along with Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane, will complete the starting XI as the Reds aim to make it five consecutive wins in all competitions.
