Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips has been full of praise for Rodrigo Moreno after his “exceptional” performance against Man City.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side broke their transfer record in August to sign Rodrigo from Valencia for around £27m. The Spaniard has played a part in each of Leeds United’s games in all competitions so far this season.
He got his first goal for the club as he equalised against Man City in the 1-1 draw at Elland Road last weekend.
Rodrigo’s form for Leeds has seen him retain his place in Spain’s national team. The 27-year-old earned his 24th international cap on Wednesday as Spain drew 0-0 with Portugal.
The striker came on against Man City and made a real impact as Leeds earned a point against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Rodrigo’s teammate, Kalvin Phillips, has been insistent that this performance could be huge for the forward’s confidence. In an interview with Football Insider, Phillips said he hopes “this is a big moment” for Rodrigo:
“Doing it against an elite club in Manchester City will have done his confidence the world of good going into the international break.
“I have to say he was exceptional and so were Leeds.
“As a centre-forward, when you come on against a team in the bottom half of the Premier League and do well you are pleased. But to do it against City, he will think, ‘I can do it against the very best.’
“It is great for Rodrigo, Bielsa and the Leeds fans as well. We have seen him perform now.”
