Man Utd are ready to move for a West Ham defender after his price dropped, while Man City are closing on the signing of a world-renowned star, according to Wednesday’s transfer gossip.
ISSA DIOP SET FOR MAN UTD TRANSFER
Manchester United are finally set to get their hands on Issa Diop this summer, claim reports.
The French defender has been on United’s radar since the days of Jose Mourinho. But he remains someone the club have followed ever since.
Now, according to The Sun, a move to Old Trafford finally beckons.
According to the paper, West Ham are ready to sell the 23-year-old to United for a £45m transfer fee. That is some way short of the £75m West Ham had quoted United when they enquired last summer.
Since then, United’s need for a new defender has grown. That’s after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided he needs to sign an upgrade for the error-prone Victor Lindelof. The Swede clashed with Bruno Fernandes after allowing Luuk de Jong to ghost past him unmarked to deny United a Europa League final place.
Signing an upgrade had already been in Solskjaer’s mind. Now Sunday’s mistake appears to have convinced United to get the chequebook out.
Diop has been an impressive performer since arriving at West Ham from Toulouse in a £22m deal two summers ago.
While West Ham would prefer to keep him, The Sun states they could offload the player to help raise transfer funds. The Hammers also have interest from Chelsea in Declan Rice, but would rather cash in on Diop. Anderson is another Hammers star who could depart to generate extra transfer revenue.
Furthermore, The Sun states Diop is after an increase on his £50,000 a week package. Offering him fresh terms would prove costly, hence their apparent willingness to sell.
Any move to United would see the Frenchman, capped at every youth level by France, more than double his current salary.
United are not alone in their pursuit for Diop. Earlier this week it was claimed the player was on Tottenham’s radar.
