Palmer accuses Rose of playing for pay check

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer has accused Tottenham left-back Danny Rose of simply playing football for the money.

The 30-year-old hasn’t played a single minute of first-team action this season having been axed from Jose Mourinho’s 25-man Premier League squad following his return from his loan spell with Newcastle.

Rose had been involved in a fall-out with the ex-Spurs manager during the club’s All or Nothing Amazon documentary having been left angry after a lack of minutes last January.

The England full back was then loaned out to Newcastle weeks later and was a regular at St James’ Park.

But Rose returned to Tottenham and looked set for a summer departure, but nothing materialised, and he remained in north London, occasionally turning out for the Under-23s.

Despite Mourinho’s recent sacking, Rose’s contract runs out in June, meaning he’s expected to make his long-awaited exit having done little more than train throughout the course of the previous 12 months.

And Palmer told Football FanCast that Rose should have left the club rather than continued to collect his wages when not playing:

“I do believe it happens in the game, but when people say they’re playing football to earn a wage at it.

“You’ve got to play football, that’s what it’s about. You’re not talking about football; you’re talking about you picking up another pay day.

“And he’s done that, hasn’t he? He’s stayed at Spurs when he could have moved. And he said that he was going to see his Spurs contract out, I’m assuming because of the type of money he was earning.”
