Looking to continue on what has been a stellar purple patch, Premier Division outfit Sligo Rovers will make the trip to the UCD Bowl with a spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s FAI Cup up for grabs.
Starting with the hosts, while UC Dublin might have sacrificed their Premier Division status last season and appeared to be struggling with life back in the second-tier last month, the Blues have really found their feet of late. Putting in a rampant display last week and picking up a 3-0 romp away at Cabinteely, Head Coach Andrew Myler has seen his side collect nine points over their last four appearances and have a top-four finish at the top of their agenda. Including picking up a 3-1 win against Shamrock Rovers’ second-string earlier in the month, UCD have also continued to impress with their performances on home soil. Yet to taste defeat in Dublin since opening the New Year, it should also be noted that they have seen 11 of their last 13 home contests across all formats finished with over 2.5 strikes by the final whistle.
As for the visitors, shocking many across Ireland last week and putting on a season-best display, Sligo Rovers landed a shock thumping 3-1 victory against defending champions Dundalk at the Showgrounds. Enjoying what has been nothing short of a remarkable start to the new campaign this time around, they have now collected 12 points over their last five Premier Division appearances and find themselves still flirting with the European spots. Enjoying what has been by far their brightest run in recent memory and with a growing reputation for their high-scoring performances, it’s worth noting that their last four contests on the bounce have seen over 2.5 goals by full-time. With the last three meetings between the two sides producing 12 strikes at both ends of the pitch, we’re backing another lively contest this weekend.
Bet: Over 2.5 goals at UC Dublin vs Sligo Rovers 4/5 for Sunday’s FAI Cup tie @ 888sport
