Opinion: Inter Milan should go after Lionel Messi

Forget about getting Messi and Ronaldo together at Juventus! Inter Milan should do everything in their power to sign Lionel Messi ASAP.

The time for Inter Milan to sign Lionel Messi couldn’t be better than right now. Although we believe that Leo is only hinting at his possible exit from Barcelona as a way to rebel against the board.

We can at least dream about the possibility of watching Leo play in a different competition before he hangs up his boots. The suggestions made to Juventus about getting Ronaldo together with Leo might be an exciting idea but I can do you one better.

With Manchester City getting at least a one-year ban, the possibility of getting Leo back with Guardiola seems far fetched. The only reason Messi might be considering leaving Barcelona is that he wants to win more UEFA Champions League titles. It’s that simple.

With this in mind, Barcelona proved several times that they can’t provide the dream career-ending Leo Messi is looking for. The board’s endless issues are apparently far more pressing than keeping the best player in the club’s history. We might never understand the logic they use to make so many decisions that only antagonize their biggest star.

Inter Milan is getting back to prominence.

This is where Inter Milan comes into the situation. The Italian giants took a while to recover from the dark ages they went through after winning the treble in 2010. Juventus completely dominated Serie A over the last decade and the other teams in the country needed to react quickly.

So far, Inter is the club that seems more determined to end the Vecchia Signora’s reign. Manager Antonio Conte has been putting together quite the impressive squad over the last year.

Players like Christian Eriksen, Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, Alexis Sanchez, and Achraf Hakimi are amongst the stars who try to fight for the title.

But the Nerazzurri doesn’t have the world-class player that Juventus has in Ronaldo. This is the opportunity they need to go after Messi if he truly wants to leave, it’s a no-brainer and he wouldn’t be as expensive as people would think.

Given that his contract is about to expire in 2021, Leo will be able to leave the Catalan club for free. The problem is his wage, which is currently €50 million per-season after tax.

Inter obviously can’t pay him that much. However, we can see Messi getting a massive cut due to his age and veteran status. But there is a far better reason Leo could be convinced to play for Inter before he retires.

    Keeping the rivalry alive.

When Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid, Messi himself confessed he missed the heated competition against the Portuguese star. What if the answer was right in from of our eyes? What if Leo just needs that extra motivation in order to finish his career with a Bang?

Just imagine having the two best players who ever lived back in the same league tournament and playing for the two most powerful clubs in the country. Forget about getting them together at Juventus!

Football needs to have the proper ending to both of their careers. A worthy end of an already incredible story. The perfect way to end the most important rivalry in the history of any sport. Messi and Ronaldo would take the Italian Serie A by storm, for old times sakes.
