A big Newcastle United claim has emerged over Harvey Barnes in the summer transfer window…
What’s the talk?
Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has revealed that people within the club have an interest in the Leicester winger, although it remains to be seen whether or not a transfer is possible.
He Tweeted: “Harvey Barnes has admirers inside Newcastle. Personally, I think he would be a tremendous signing. Again, though, a difficult deal to do at the numbers involved.”
The reporter then added – in response to a fan – that the Magpies feel clubs are asking more from them than they would from other clubs, Tweeting:
“Newcastle believe there is a tax, yes. But then the deals they have done have been good value – a new back five for the same £80m Man Utd paid for Harry Maguire.”
Supporters will be excited
The supporters will be excited by Hope’s claim as Barnes has the potential to be an excellent signing for the club this season.
He is a proven Premier League attacker who has shown that he has the ability to make a big impact at the top end of the pitch with goals and assists.
Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers recently heaped praise on him, saying: “When I came in you could see the talent but he needed to score more goals and week by week he started to do that. I think the only thing that will stop him will be availability.
“If he can stay injury-free, and get that little bit of luck, you can just see his game coming together. He’s got that hunger and is gaining confidence all the time.
“What’s great about Harvey is he’s a very humble boy, he doesn’t get carried away with it. He comes in with a wonderful attitude.”
In the Premier League last term, Barnes racked up six goals and ten assists in 24 starts for the Foxes. This came after he managed nine strikes and four assists in 22 starts the previous campaign.
The 24-year-old is an up-and-coming attacker with the potential to develop into a double threat out wide, as he has shown promise at both scoring and assisting goals in the top flight. Meanwhile, no Newcastle player managed more than five goals or five assists last term, suggesting that he would be a big upgrade on their current options.
Therefore, Magpies supporters will be excited by the prospect of him potentially joining the Toon and running up and down the wing for Howe this season.
