‘Most selfish player ever’ – Ronaldo attacked for penalty plan

Cristiano Ronaldo became a subject of criticism for failing to even take part in the penalty shootout following Juventus’ Coppa Italia defeat.

Napoli came out on top of Juventus to secure the Coppa Italia trophy last night in a match that straightaway went to penalty shootouts after neither of the team managed to break the 0-0 deadlock in normal time.

Arkadiusz Milik converted the decisive spot-kick that sealed a 4-2 victory for his side after Paulo Dybala had his shot saved and Danilo had blasted high over the goal.

Other than the defeat, much of Juve fans’ annoyance stemmed from the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo did not even step up to take a penalty.

It is claimed that Ronaldo, who is unquestionably the best penalty taker for his side, waited to take the fifth spot-kick converting which, and subsequently winning the cup, would have grabbed him the headlines.

This is something which has happened quite a few times in the past during his time at Real Madrid. And the claim that the Portuguese favors personal glory over team success, as Sportbible reports, has seen quite a few Juve fans turn against him and even brand him as ‘the most selfish footballer ever’ after last night.
