MLS secondary transfer window opens August 12

With the resumption of play announced by MLS, we can now turn our attention to the field and what Atlanta United’s outlook for the rest of 2020 is. The Five Stripes have already made big moves on the heels of a putrid showing in the MLS is Back Tournament.

Most notable is obviously parting ways with manager Frank de Boer. They’ve also brought in two experienced Liga MX attackers in Jurgen Damm and Cubo Torres to help right the ship this season.

With the MLS secondary transfer window opening on August 12 (closes October 29), could Atlanta add another piece or two for their playoff push?

Rumors have been flying the past couple of weeks about the club searching for a holding midfielder. Atlanta United has been linked heavily to Monterrey’s Jonathan Gonzalez, even as far as reports saying a deal is very close. While those reports may have been premature, the interest seems genuine. Meanwhile, there have also been vague rumblings about interest in veteran Sebastian Perez from Boca Juniors.

It’s difficult to say if the Five Stripes could add anymore players to their current roster. Their financial situation is a gray area and roster slots are at a premium. However, surely if they are desperate to bolster their central midfield, they can maneuver around those obstacles to get something done.

What say you? How do you feel about the roster as it stands? Do you think Carlos Bocanegra and company will add any more to the roster for the 18-game stretch ahead?
