Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest football player in the world in the last decade, has spent his entire professional career so far at Barcelona. There have been links with other clubs in that time, especially in the last year or two as various problems reportedly started hurting the Catalan club from the inside, as well as with the news of his contract being subject to unilateral termination every year breaking out.
Be that as it may, the fact of the matter is that his contract has entered its final 12 months and he still hasn’t signed a new one. There have been some talks between the club and the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, but nothing concrete has developed as of yet. And now Cadena SER (via Marca) claim the Argentine superstar has had enough and wants to leave next summer.
Messi is expected to wait and see what the club will look like after next year’s elections, before making his decision.
For their part, Barcelona claim they have no knowledge of their captain’s alleged wish to leave the Camp Nou and expect the negotiations to continue.
