Anthony Martial scored Man United’s first Premier League hat-trick for more than seven years as the Red Devils closed the gap on Champions League spots.
In what was mostly a one-sided affair, Anthony Martial stole the headlines as he Red Devils brushed aside Sheffield United with a 3-0 scoreline.
The Frenchman produced a standout performance and looked sharp upfront throughout the evening.
Martial has had his critics at Old Trafford but gave a lacklustre Blades outfit the run-around, opening the scoring with a close-range finish from a Marcus Rashford cross.
The second goal came in similar fashion when Martial connected to a cross from Wan-Bissaka and made no mistake in slamming the ball home.
The Frenchman then completed his treble with a brilliant chip 15 minutes from time as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side reduced the deficit on the top four to just two points.
Asides being the first career hat-trick for Martial, it was a special one for the Red Devils as well. The 24-year-old became the first United player to do so in England’s top flight since Robin van Persie against Aston Villa in April 2013.
A total of four shots on target meant Martial had more shots than the Sheffield team combined throughout the 90 minutes.
As expected, he won the man of the match award, taking his league tally to 14 goals this season.
Elsewhere, Pogba and Fernandes made their first start together and looked lively in midfield, giving hope to Ole Solskjaer for the future.
The Red-Devils have now closed the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to just two points and would hope neighbors Man City do them a favour on Thursday night.
Anthony Martial will now aim to continue his good form when his side take on Norwich next in the Premier League on Saturday.
