Manchester United make offer for World Cup-winning star | Shoot

As the transfer rumour mill continues to turn, Manchester United are once again linked to a whole host of centre-backs in their search for a long-term partner to captain Harry Maguire.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second-placed side look to have already wrapped up Champions League football next year, providing UEFA or the FA don’t land them with a hefty punishment for their European Super League involvement, with an 11 point lead on 4th-place Chelsea.

Red Devils fans could be about to get excited too, with the potential welcoming of a World Cup-winning defender, who played every minute of every game in France’s 2018 triumph.

Spanish publication Marca are reporting that United have made an official bid for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, totalling at around £43m.

Frenchman Raphael Varane is a four-time Champions League winner with European superstars Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old has been valued at up to £20m more in the past by Madrid, according to an older Marca report, but could be sold at a cut price if he doesn’t sign a new deal with his current contract expiring in June 2022.

The France international is interested in moving to the Premier League having already won every major domestic and continental prize with Real Madrid, and would add speed and dynamism to complement Maguire’s expansive playing style but lack of pace.

Previously, the Daily Mail had reported that the 13-time European Champions are asking for £60million to sell their £100,000-a-week prized asset, so United could yet be rebuffed with their reported offer.

Having made 356 total appearances for Los Blancos since arriving from Lens in 2011, could now be a good time for the Frenchman to try his hand in another of the top divisions across Europe?
