Man Utd submit £49m bid for Serie A winger as Sancho concerns grow

    Date published: Wednesday 5th August 2020 7:22

Manchester United have submitted a £49million bid for Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa amid concerns about a deal for Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

United made important breakthroughs in their chase for top target Sancho on Monday and Tuesday. Indeed it looked as if the deal was close, with personal terms agreed.

However, the transfer fee has remained the key sticking point and several reports on Tuesday evening claimed United are willing to walk away if Borussia Dortmund do not budge from their valuation.

One such report from ESPN also said the Red Devils will happily consider other targets if those concerns grew.

Amid the alleged situation, La Nazione (via Football Italia) now claims United have done just that. The source says they have bid €55million (£49million) for Chiesa.

Reports in previous months mentioned the Italy international as a strong United alternative to Sancho. The 22-year-old scored 10 goals in 34 Serie A games this term, the second successive season he has reached double figures.

As such, Chiesa has emerged as a top talent in Europe and Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso admitted that he is thinking about selling him.

“I kept him last summer, now I hope that he remains,” he said (via OneFootball). “But if he wants to leave, then he can do so as long as he brings in the right money for his true value.

“I gave him the all-clear, as long as he brings the right money. I would like him to stay, but if he does want to go, then the clubs have to pay us what we believe he is worth.”

MAN UTD URGED NOT TO HEAP PRESSURE ON SANCHO

While United remain locked in talks with Sancho and Dortmund, a former Red Devil has warned the club about pressuring the 20-year-old upon his potential arrival.

United have had a penchant of big-money signings who have flopped in recent seasons.

Now, Gordon Hill says his former side must not make the same mistake with Sancho.
