Man United shortlist Ralf Rangnick as preferred interim candidate

Man United eyeing Ralf Rangnick for interim boss until the end of the season

Rangnick on radar for Man United

Manchester United continue to search for the right course of action in the wake of the club parting ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjær and have now turned their attention towards Ralf Rangnick – current Head of Sports & Development at Russian outfit Lokomotive Moscow – according to the chief Manchester United writer at the″ target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>Manchester Evening News

    , Samuel Luckhurst.

The Red Devils were originally rumored to be making an immediate push for Mauricio Pochettino after he was apparently open to a switch to Old Trafford, and it was even suggested that the Manchester United dressing room was already buzzing at the prospect of the Argentine making his Premier League return with the club.

However, Pochettino spoke out yesterday regarding the rumor and categorically denied any truth to it, and instead, spoke of his happiness at the club and referenced his current deal at the Parc des Princes lasting another two seasons.

Now Man United is said to be pivoting in the direction of Rangnick and bringing the German to the club on an interim basis until the end of the season, but that too has been dismissed by BILD Head of Football Christian Falk.

Falk mentions discussions between both camps back in 2019 before Ole Gunnar Solskjær was given the reigns at United on a full-time basis, and the nature of those meetings apparently continues to put Rangnick off the scent of the club.

With links to Ajax tactician Erik ten Hag cooling after his name cropped up in the immediate aftermath of Solskjær’s departure, United look set to remain directionless in their hunt for a long-term replacement.

Red Devils go submarine hunting in Spain

But don’t tell that to caretaker boss and former United midfielder Michael Carrick after the Red Devils took all three points on their travels to Villarreal last night in matchday five of the Champions League group stage.

Carrick’s men ran out 2-0 winners on their European away day against Unai Emery’s Villarreal, and despite being largely outplayed – certainly out-possessed and outshot – for the majority of the 90-minute period, United still sealed all three points and are now all but guaranteed to top the group as they go into the round of 16, which they are guaranteed.

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho – his first in Man United colors – would end up being enough to prize an away win in the wake of their shock 4-1 defeat at the weekend against Watford.

But things will get even more tricky for Carrick in rapid order as a visit to Stamford Bridge and table-topping Chelsea could bring Manchester United crashing back down to reality on Sunday, with a loss and results elsewhere not going their way seeing the club capable of dropping to as low as eleventh in the table.
